Cybersecurity software protects your business against digital attacks, such as phishing, ransomware and intrusion into your network or accounts. Antivirus software and a backup are the basics. Which cybersecurity tools do SMEs need?
There is no single package that does everything. Most cybersecurity solutions focus on one area. For secure email and filtering spam and phishing there are SpamTitan, 365 Total Protection and Zivver. Do you have nobody who can follow up on alerts? Then you can outsource the monitoring. Such a service often works together with the EDR software or XDR that is already on your computers.
What should you look out for?
- What you already have: check which security is already included in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace and which gap you want to close.
- Management: every package generates alerts. Decide who follows them up: you yourself, your IT partner or the supplier. Some packages you can only buy through an IT partner.
- Pricing model: you usually pay per user or per device, per month or per year. Watch out for a minimum number and for one-off costs for setup.
- Rules and data: if you fall under NIS2 or work with personal data, look at where your data is stored and whether you get reports that you can show in an audit.
