Compare field sales software

Field sales software, also called field sales management software, is made for salespeople who do not work at the office. On the road they see their customers, appointments and sales territory on their phone or tablet and immediately record what a visit produced. Their manager sees the results without having to go through reports.

This software is different from field service software for service work, which plans and supports the work of mechanics, for example. Field sales software is all about selling outside the office.

For which way of selling?

The first choice is how your team sells. Door-to-door sales software focuses on neighbourhoods and homes: who walks where, what happened at the door and where you can still ring the bell. B2B customer visits are mainly about visit planning and the data of existing customers. Representatives in retail and wholesale often need mobile order taking. A package can support several forms, but is usually built for one of them.

What should you look out for?

  • Working on the road: check whether the app is fast enough to use between two visits or at the door, and whether salespeople can understand it without lengthy training.
  • Routes and territories: check whether the software only shows routes or also optimises their order, and whether you can divide and change sales territories yourself.
  • Duplicate work: if several salespeople work in the same region, check whether visit results are immediately visible to colleagues.
  • Integrations: quotes and orders are sometimes in the software itself and sometimes run through your CRM or ERP. Ask what is standard and what requires an additional module or integration.
  • Privacy: if you record data on residents or customers or use external address and location data, check where the data is stored, where it comes from and whether the supplier signs a data processing agreement with you.
