Alternatives to Shopify: 5 webshop platforms compared

Shopify is quick to set up, but many features come from paid apps, and with another payment provider you pay extra transaction fees. Five webshop platforms as an alternative, with their prices and how to take products and customers with you.

Why people look for an alternative to Shopify

Shopify is quick to set up: you choose a theme, add your products and receive payments. According to the Dutch pricing page (1 October 2026), Basic costs €21 per month with annual billing and €28 with monthly billing. With Shopify Payments you only pay the payment costs, such as €0,29 per iDEAL payment; if you choose another payment provider, Shopify charges 2% extra on Basic.

People look further because many features come from apps with their own monthly price, because they want to keep their own payment provider, or because they want more control over their webshop and hosting. A Dutch platform with Dutch support is another reason.

Five alternatives to Shopify side by side

The prices come from the suppliers' websites, checked on 1 and 2 October 2026, and are per month. WooCommerce and Magento Open Source have no subscription; Adobe publishes no price for Adobe Commerce.

Platform Suits Price per month Source
WooCommerce Anyone who already has a WordPress site or wants to be able to customise everything Free plug-in; you pay for hosting, extensions and maintenance pricing page
CCV Shop Dutch business owners who want an easy start Basic €36 (50 products), Professional €59 (7.500), Enterprise €129; €30 start-up fee, one-year contract pricing page
Lightspeed eCom Shops that also use a Lightspeed till €68 (250 product variants), Advanced €120, Professional €259 with B2B pricing page
Wix Anyone who wants a website with a small webshop Core €25, Business €34, Business Elite €149 with an annual plan pricing page
Magento Large catalogues, several shops and B2B Open Source free to download; Adobe Commerce on request website

Wix quotes prices for annual plans paid in advance, excluding taxes. With WooCommerce and Magento you arrange and pay for hosting and maintenance yourself, usually with an agency or freelancer.

Which alternative suits you?

  • You want to keep your own payment provider: with Shopify Basic that costs 2% extra. Ask each alternative whether the platform itself also charges transaction fees, and add your payment provider's costs.
  • You want Dutch support and an easy start: CCV Shop, with a 21-day trial, or Lightspeed eCom if you also have a Lightspeed till.
  • You want to be able to customise everything: WooCommerce, if you handle the technology yourself or outsource it. For thousands of products and B2B, look at Magento.

A worked example with subscription, payment costs and apps is in which webshop platform suits you.

Taking your webshop out of Shopify

  • According to the Shopify help page, you export products as CSV. Images are not included, only as links; if a product has more than 100 variants, you receive the file by email.
  • You export customers separately as CSV, optionally with tags; according to Shopify, such a file is at most 15 MB. Take your order history separately or keep it, because the product and customer export contains no orders.
  • WooCommerce reads products with its built-in CSV importer, including variants, categories and images via a link. Adjust the columns of the Shopify export first.
  • Redirect your old product addresses to the new ones, so you do not lose your visibility in Google.
