Jortt review 2026: bookkeeping and payslips, what does it cost?

Jortt review: what Starter, ZZP, MKB and Plus cost after the price rise, what payslips cost, the welcome offer and who Jortt suits.

Illustration of a friendly desk robot sorting bank statements into three trays, a laptop with a dashboard, a payslip with coins, a small house and a small office building, and a clipboard with ticks.

Jortt raised its prices in September 2026 and charges for payslips per payslip. We list the four subscriptions with their limits, the welcome offer and the cost of payslips, show what to watch out for and who a different package suits better.

Jortt at a glance

Jortt is online accounting software for freelancers and small businesses. A built-in Boekhoudbot books incoming and outgoing bank payments using standard rules and rules you add yourself. There is a free subscription for invoicing and three paid subscriptions with bookkeeping. You create payslips and the payroll tax return in the same program, at a price per payslip.

On 7 November 2026 we read Jortt's pricing page, discount conditions, explanations of switching and cancelling and terms and conditions again. Everything below comes from those pages and from the reviews users write on SoftwareWatcher. We did not test Jortt ourselves with an administration of our own, and we do not give a score. Further down is a short test you can run yourself during the trial.

What does Jortt cost? All subscriptions and limits

Jortt raised its prices on 9 September 2026. Below are the new prices per month, excluding VAT, per business (Chamber of Commerce number) (pricing page). With an annual subscription you pay twelve months in advance in one go.

Subscription Paying monthly Paying annually (per month) Who it is for and limits
Start-up €0 €0 Invoices, quotes, hours, Peppol invoices and a web shop; no bookkeeping; 2 users
Freelancer €21.95 €19.95 (€239.40 per year) Sole traders only; up to 250 bookings per month; bank connection with one bank; 2 users; annual accounts and income tax report; no payslips
SMEs €29.95 €27.95 (€335.40 per year) All legal forms; unlimited bookings and bank connections; 5 users; Chamber of Commerce annual accounts, income and corporation tax reports; API
Plus €39.95 €37.95 (€455.40 per year) Everything in MKB, plus unlimited users, AI scan and recognise, paying invoices from the bookkeeping, automatic direct debit, advanced permissions and an audit trail

The VAT return and the EC sales list are included in ZZP, MKB and Plus. What comes on top:

  • Payslips: €9.50 per payslip per month, on Starter, MKB and Plus; not on ZZP. The payroll tax return, the payroll journal entry and an employee portal are included. An HR module for leave and expense claims is now free in beta and will then cost €5 per employee per month.
  • Bank connection: Jortt charges nothing for it. Rabobank and Knab themselves charge a small monthly amount for their accounting link (switching explained).

Welcome offer. You try every feature of Plus free for 30 days. If you choose ZZP, MKB or Plus within those 30 days, you pay €9.95 per month for the first 3 months; after that the regular rate. With an annual subscription the discount is offset: the first year then costs €209.40, €281.40 or €371.40. Payslips are free for the first 3 months. If you upgrade after the trial, you get 1 month free once (discount conditions). Budget with the regular rate.

What Jortt does well

  • Bookkeeping and payroll in one. For a private limited company with a director's salary or a few employees, you do not need to connect a separate payroll package.
  • Rules that book by themselves. The Boekhoudbot works with standard rules for costs that are the same for every business and with your own rules: 10 on ZZP, 25 on MKB and 250 on Plus.
  • Money back within 90 days. If you are not satisfied, Jortt credits the invoices within 90 days of the start of your paid subscription, also with an annual subscription.
  • Your data is kept. If you stop a paid subscription and go back to Starter, Jortt keeps your administration for another 7 years (leaving explained).

What to watch out for

  • ZZP is only for sole traders. A private limited company, general partnership or foundation needs at least MKB, as does a sole trader with more than 250 bookings per month or accounts at more than one bank.
  • Recognising receipts is only on Plus. AI Scan en Herken, which reads receipts and invoices, is listed on the pricing page only for Plus.
  • Payroll costs add up quickly. Ten payslips at €9.50 cost €95 per month, more than the subscription itself.
  • No import of old bookkeeping. When you switch, you start in Jortt on 1 January of the current year and connect with an opening balance. Each extra administration has its own subscription.
  • No income tax return. Jortt produces the report for your return; you file the return itself with the Tax Administration. You do file the VAT return and the payroll tax return from Jortt.

Who does Jortt suit, and who should look elsewhere?

Jortt suits a private limited company or sole trader that wants bookkeeping and payslips in one program, and business owners who want rules to book as many bank transactions as possible. If you only create invoices and quotes, you can start with the free Starter subscription.

Look elsewhere if:

How Jortt compares with ten other packages is in what does accounting software cost, and what the free subscription does and does not do in free accounting software: what is really free. If you are unsure whether to process the payroll yourself, read payroll: do it yourself or outsource.

Switching to or from Jortt

To Jortt. You cannot import your old bookkeeping. You set up your administration in Jortt from 1 January of this year, even if you switch mid-year. The bank connection fetches up to 18 months back; older transactions you upload as a CAMT.053 or MT940 file before you connect the account. Then you complete the opening balance. You import your customers with a Jortt template. You keep your old administration as an audit file.

Leaving Jortt. A monthly subscription ends at the end of the current month, an annual one at the end of the paid year. Before you downgrade, download the audit file (XAF 4.0.3) and the annual accounts for each financial year via the Boekhoudbot, and set aside your invoices, quotes and receipts with the Dropbox connection. On Starter you no longer have the Boekhoudbot or the Dropbox connection. You cancel under Instellingen, Mijn abonnement.

How to test Jortt yourself during the trial

We did not test Jortt ourselves. With these five steps you will see during the 30 free days whether it fits your administration:

  1. Connect your business account with a start date of 1 January and see how many payments the Boekhoudbot books by itself and how many remain under Nog te doen.
  2. Create three rules of your own for recurring costs. Count how many rules you need: ZZP has 10, MKB 25.
  3. Create an invoice, send it to yourself and check whether the payment is matched to the invoice automatically.
  4. If you have staff or are a company director, create a test payslip and look at the payroll journal entry in the bookkeeping.
  5. Download an audit file, so you know you can take your data with you again.

Frequently asked questions about Jortt

What does Jortt cost per month?

Starter is free. ZZP costs €21.95, MKB €29.95 and Plus €39.95 per month, excluding VAT. With an annual subscription that is €19.95, €27.95 and €37.95 per month. Payslips cost €9.50 each per month.

Is Jortt free?

The Starter subscription is free, but without bookkeeping: you use it for invoices, quotes and timesheets. For bookkeeping and the VAT return you need ZZP, MKB or Plus.

Which Jortt subscription do I need for a private limited company?

At least MKB. ZZP is only for sole traders. MKB also has the Chamber of Commerce annual accounts, the corporation tax report and payslips for the company director.

What happens to my data if I stop?

If you go back to the free Starter, your data is kept and Jortt keeps your administration for another 7 years. If you delete the administration, everything is gone immediately. So download your audit files, annual accounts and invoices first.
